From the High end of the family

Haven't blogged much lately! But today I got this nice note from Alice High Sperling [daughter of of Anne Lucia (Lufkin) High and Howie High] with news from their end of things. The whole High clan seems to be flourishing. Here's the note:

"Hi Kate (and Anne!)

I just found the Lufkin Family blog spot bookmarked on my computer, and wondered if you would like to share some family news with your family.

We are just back from Estes Park, Colorado, where our daughter, Edith Louise Sperling (age 26) married Chris Gilliand in a beautiful outdoor ceremony at Wild Basin Lodge on Sunday, June 22. They live in Estes Park and will be there until August when they are moving to Tacoma, Washington (much closer to us!) so Edie can start physical therapy school at the University of Puget Sound. Edie has been a massage therapist and exercise instructor for several years. Chris has a Master's in Forestry from Oregon State University. They are honeymooning in the Virgin Islands.

My brother Chick with daughter Emily and wife Nancy, and Edie and Paul Sanchez with daughters Anne and Tessa and Anne's children Kate and Max (and husband Tom) were all with us for the happy event, as were a number of Jay's brothers, a sister, and families. And of course, Abigail (Abi) with her partner Tom, returned from New Zealand to be, as she called it, Best Woman. We all stayed an extra week after the wedding and had a great mixed family reunion with lots of hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park. We all stayed together in a large cabin (?) at Alpine Lodge in Estes Park, which worked really well with everyone pitching in to help with chores and cooking and getting along fine!

With Abi back in New Zealand, Jay and I are feeling a little sad with just the two of us again after such a crazy couple of weeks surrounded by family and friends. We are back to gardening, lawn-mowing, and working, and trying to fit in some hiking on the side.

So another Edith Louise is launched into a new phase of life (she'll stay Sperling). We are happy parents!!

Much love,

Alice"

I'd love to post any other family news in this space. Blessings for all your eventful summers. -- Kate Lufkin Day
